Speaking with the PlayStation blog at Gamescom, Ninja Theory creative director, Tameem Antoniades, touched upon DmC Devil May Cry and the new Dante, revealing some interesting tidbits about how the game is both similar and different from the previous games.
Last week, we reported that DmCās Dante is half demon and half angel, but thereās more to his background than that. This Dante is more of a street brawler.
āGrowing up in a situation where the demons are out to kill him; society in general, controlled by the demons, is out to crush him; growing up on the streets… So, heās more of a street brawler,ā Antoniades shared about Danteās background. āHis moves are less refined than you would have seen in previous DMCs.ā
As far as combat goes, Dante will also spend more time in the air than previous Devil May Cry games, as DmC attempts to expand further on aerial combos. It also has dynamic music that changes as you fight.
āThe music responds to your ranking system,ā Antoniades revealed, āso the better you play, the more layers of music kick in, and if you get to the top ranks, then the screaming vocals kick in and it kind of affects you when you play, because you know youāre doing well.ā
DmC has dynamic environments that distort as you play, switching between the ārealā world and the demon world. Sometimes, architecture will distort and block your path. Interestingly, this was the result of an attempt to retain an element from the original Devil May Cry games, which locked you in areas until you defeated all the enemies present.
Finally, fielding a question about Danteās personality and whether heās more āgreen and naiveā since heās younger, Antoniades replied: āI wouldnāt say heās green and naive, Iād just say he doesnāt give a ****.ā
