Speaking with the PlayStation blog at Gamescom, Ninja Theory creative director, Tameem Antoniades, touched upon DmC Devil May Cry and the new Dante, revealing some interesting tidbits about how the game is both similar and different from the previous games.

Last week, we reported that DmCā€™s Dante is half demon and half angel, but thereā€™s more to his background than that. This Dante is more of a street brawler.

ā€œGrowing up in a situation where the demons are out to kill him; society in general, controlled by the demons, is out to crush him; growing up on the streets… So, heā€™s more of a street brawler,ā€ Antoniades shared about Danteā€™s background. ā€œHis moves are less refined than you would have seen in previous DMCs.ā€

As far as combat goes, Dante will also spend more time in the air than previous Devil May Cry games, as DmC attempts to expand further on aerial combos. It also has dynamic music that changes as you fight.

ā€œThe music responds to your ranking system,ā€ Antoniades revealed, ā€œso the better you play, the more layers of music kick in, and if you get to the top ranks, then the screaming vocals kick in and it kind of affects you when you play, because you know youā€™re doing well.ā€

DmC has dynamic environments that distort as you play, switching between the ā€œrealā€ world and the demon world. Sometimes, architecture will distort and block your path. Interestingly, this was the result of an attempt to retain an element from the original Devil May Cry games, which locked you in areas until you defeated all the enemies present.

Finally, fielding a question about Danteā€™s personality and whether heā€™s more ā€œgreen and naiveā€ since heā€™s younger, Antoniades replied: ā€œI wouldnā€™t say heā€™s green and naive, Iā€™d just say he doesnā€™t give a ****.ā€
